I finally developed a cache of exposed film that got spread amongst boxes and bags in the months of transition and found a few last photos from my final days in Portland. on the last weekend, looking to tie up a few of the loose ends of things I’d meant to do but hadn’t gotten around to, I went out to the Grotto on a cool, wet Sunday.
officially known as The National Sanctuary of Our Sorrowful Mother, the Grotto is part-shrine and part-botanic garden, spread across 62 acres in Northeast Portland. you can see the grotto itself carved into the cliff at the ground level, but for a small donation, ride the elevator 125 feet up to wander the gardens, with amazing views of the mountains and airport and the brand new shopping center around Ikea.
between my exposure errors and ongoing troubles with horizontal scratches, the photos didn’t come out as well as I hoped. but these are for Elissa who is today arriving in Portland after her own cross-country move.
it is enjoyably creepy. though i bet they make you pay double tithe for saying stuff like that!
ah the memories. i like the one of the elevator, it seems like something out of an old dario argento movie.
