Eleanor and I went to visit to the little corner dedicated to the typeface Helvetica at MOMA.
from top down: comparing precursor akzidenz-grotesk (blue) to helvetica (red), posters, the lead version, and Massimo Vignelli’s iconic nyc subway poster from the 1970s. the exhibit also includes a five-minute excerpt from Gary Hustwit’s documentary — incredibly entertaining for a movie about a typeface. the show is up until the end of the month, perhaps not worth a full-price ticket if there isn’t anything else you want to see, but a nice little anniversary tribute.
the Color Chart exhibit was rather underwhelming, but the entrance (and only photographable area) matched the Helvetica exhibit with its bright primaries.
