This book is a nice look at how modernism affected typography and book design in general, but I just do not understand the cover:

The font choices seem to edge over the line into “cheesy” and the word breaks seem to go against the idea of clear communication (specifically in regards to the “illogical line breaks” mentioned in early examples of more traditional printing). On top of that the block of text slips out of its grid half-way down—am I missing something? Perhaps it’s some kind of visual pun?
